Glossary:Methane emissions

Print this page

Methane (CH4) is a colourless, odourless, and flammable gas that is considered a potent greenhouse gas. Methane emissions arise from natural processes, such as wetlands, and human activities, including livestock farming, rice cultivation, and landfill operations as well as coal mining, oil and gas extraction, and the distribution of natural gas (as methane is also the main component of mine gas and natural gas).
